| Pakistan defeat West Indies by 10 wickets |
Pakistan are at their best in this world cup with just two
games away from repeating the heroics of Imran Khan's 1992 team after a
crushing 10-wicket victory against West Indies in the first quarter-final in
Dhaka.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first. Things started
going wrong for the West Indians when Gayle got out in the 3rd Over.
The team was not able to recover from the loss, that it lost two more wickets
in quick succession. Chanderpaul and Sarwan tried their best to get their team
back on track. Chanderpaul was not out on 44 and Sarwan made 24 before his
dismissal. Apart from them, only Roach was able to reach double figures and all
the team collapsed at a mere total of 112 runs.
For Pakistan it was
Captain Shahid Afridi who with his majestic bowling took 4 wickets. He is the
leading wicket taker of the tournament with 21 wickets just in 7 matches. Apart
from Afridi it was Mohammad Hafeez who impressed everyone with his bat and ball
and was named the man of the match.
Hafeez provided his team with early wickets by taking
crucial wickets of Smith and Bravo. He also contributed 61 runs by bat and made
the sail for his team smoother. Kamran Akmal on the other end supported Hafeez
and made 47 runs. The duo managed to bring their team a ten wicket victory over
the West Indians.
